Events to mark 1000 years of Thang Long

The 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi will be an important event for the capital and the country. The Politburo in the 8th tenure had Instruction No 32-CT/TU on the event. Hanoi’s plan to organize the event is aimed at expressing gratefulness to ancestors who made great contribution to national construction and defence, and passing this historical tradition on to the masses, especially young people. The plan to welcome 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi includes a drive to create literature and arts, build outstanding works, hold events according to the count-down clock from 2008 and a hold great festival in October 2010. Hanoi hopes to receive ideas for the festival from all localities, ministries, committees, people nationwide and international friends, said Pham Quang Nghi, Politburo member and secretary of Hanoi City’s Party Committee.

Hanoi to set off fireworks on National Day
Hanoi will organise firework displays in four locations on September 2 to celebrate the 65 th anniversary of National Day.According to Vice Director of the municipal Culture, Sports and Tourism Department Nguyen Khac Loi, high-range fireworks will be set off by Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem district), Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung district), Ly Tu Trong monument (Tay Ho district) and Van Quan Lake (Ha Dong district). To celebrate the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day as well as to mark 30 days ahead of the 1,000 th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, many cultural activities will take place in the centre of the city and 29 districts

The centre of the festival is the international and domestic tourism exhibition showcases.
Among 315 showcases, there will be 50 showcases for nations from 5 continents, 100 showcases for tourism businesses in Hanoi, 115 showcases for Departments of Culture, Sport and Tourism and tourism businesses from 62 provinces and cities across the country and 50 showcases for sponsoring units.
During the four-day festival, there will be special art and cultural programs, folk games, daily life of old Hanoians and street festivals such as Then singing of Thai ethnic minority and water puppet performance.
The festival will also recreate the daily life of Hanoians at the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century, tents and bamboo camp-beds of candidate for mandarinal examinations in feudal Vietnam and calligraphic performances.
At the festival, the organizing board will also organize tourism destination promotion meetings of Vietnam and continents.
